Jack Snyder tried to ignore the stabbing pain in his chest as he locked eyes with Becky, the woman he had left shattered when he walked away to marry Carly Tenney.
“I can’t believe you had the nerve to show up here,” Becky hissed, her eyes flashing with anger and hurt.
“I didn’t come to fight, Becky,” Jack said, trying to keep his voice steady. “I just need to talk to you about–“
“About what, Jack? About how you threw away everything we had? You left me! Without so much as a word! you broke my heart into a million pieces! You didn’t even say goodbye!”
“I’m sorry, Becky. I know what I did was wrong, but I had my reasons–“
“Reasons? What reasons could you possibly have for leaving me?! 10 years! That’s how long it’s been since I’ve seen you! Now suddenly I hear you’re married?! Married! My god, Jack you married Carly! Not once but twice! Someone who doesn’t know the first thing about love or loyalty or anything that actually matters?”
“Don’t talk about Carly like that,Becky! I love her. But I still care about you. I always will.”
“Save your sympathy for someone who actually wants it, Jack. I don’t need your pity or your guilt. I just need you to leave me alone.”
With that, Becky turned on her heel and walked away, her back straight and her shoulders tense with anger and pain. Jack stood there, alone and helpless, wishing more than anything he could go back in time and undo the mistakes that had brought him to this moment.
But he knew it was too late for that, and all he could do now was try to make amends in whatever way he could, even if it meant facing Becky’s wrath head on. Because no matter what happened between them, he knew deep down that he still cared about her, and nothing would ever change that.
